파키스탄 지진피해 복구를 위해 50만 불을 지원한 ECHO

2006.11.15
Claudia Hudspeth, UNICEF Programme Officer, soundbites: The Pakistan earthquake is very much about logistics and getting supplies out into really difficult valleys and high altitude areas and a hard-to-reach population. So there have been many challenges. The most pressing needs at the moment in terms of people surviving the winter are food and shelter and there are also huge needs to provide healthcare to ensure that if we have disease outbreaks or if children have pneumonia – which is very common here – that we are able to deal with that caseload. ECHO initiated the Emergency Response Team funding - As a senior manager I’m responsible for field office operations. I do a combination of things. I work within our own team providing guidance and support for the different sections. But most of my job is direct management and dealing with strategic issues such as - for example at the moment we are dealing with issues such as will populations move with the winter coming, are we going to start seeing population displacements? in addition ECHO is funding humanitarian programmes. They initially made quite a lot of money available to fly supplies out such as blankets and tarpaulins and jerry cans in the early days of this emergency, as they have in other emergencies. People are trying to make do with what they have – and what they have is very little. They might have a tent and a few blankets, but they are incredibly resilient and little children are even more resilient than adults, I think. (Nat sound Claudia with little girl) “Which class are you in? Are you still going to school? I hope you continue to go to your school.” It’s important for us to get them back to school and I’ve seen little kids in some of the tented schools and they are much happier than they were without a school. ※ ECHO: the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Office *** Asset Name : UNICEF RECEIVES $500,000 FROM ECHO FOR PAKISTAN EARTHQUAKE RELIEF Asset Duration: 01 min 40 secs Shoot City: MUZAFFARABAD Shoot Country: Pakistan Shoot Date: Nov 28 2005
