러시아에서 열린 청소년 포럼

2006.11.17
With the goal of influencing world leaders, more than 60 young people from G8 countries have opened the "Junior 8" youth summit in Pushkin, Russia, near St. Petersburg. They are spending the next week putting together a list of recommendations, which eight of them will hand deliver to G8 leaders on July 16th. SOUNDBITE: (English) Shaunt Attarian, U.S.A. delegate: "I believe that collectively, the world has the power to deal with the issues being discussed here, but must unite together to do so," says Shaunt Attarian, one of the delegates from the United States. "And I feel that my goal here is to help energize the youth worldwide to deal with these issues." UNICEF Executive Director Ann M. Veneman and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Sir Roger Moore held a lively question and answer session with the young leaders. They also spoke at the opening of the summit. SOUNDBITE: (English) UNICEF Executive Director Ann M. Veneman: “In an increasingly global village, as we are drawn closer together both literally and figuratively, these young people represent not just the J8, but all countries around the world,” The former James Bond offered practical advice before the young delegates meet some of the world's most powerful leaders. SOUNDBITE: (English) Sir Roger Moore, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador: "Just point out to them that next year or the year after, you will be the voters," says Sir Moore. "And they need votes to stay where they are." Perhaps these are the world leaders of tomorrow. Perhaps they will one day lead their countries at a future G8 Summit. For now, though, they are working hard to articulate their opinions about exactly what kind of world they want to inhabit. *** Asset Name : UNICEF: Junior 8 Youth Forum opens in Russia Asset Duration: 02 min 07 secs Shoot City: Pushkin Shoot Country: Russia Shoot Date: July 10, 200
