불안에 떠는 어린이를 위한 심리치료 프로그램

2006.11.17
There are no places to play in Al Zaitoun. Children wonder the streets, improvising their own games in this heavily populated area east of Gaza city. Poverty is rife and ongoing hostilities have made matters worse. To help with the crisis, UNICEF and its partners have been holding special psychological sessions in addition to their regular support programs. Soundbite (English) Dan Rohrmann, UNICEF Special Representative in oPt: “At the moment we have every day something going on to help children in all the districts in Gaza, so we have these group sessions that you see behind me. In addition to that we also have individual sessions, and then we have a festival going on for children every day." The children’s fears and distress, exacerbated by their continual exposure to violence, resurface during these special sessions. Soundbite (Arabic) Shaban (young boy): “There was a school and then there was this plane flying over the school. It was an Israeli plane and it dropped a missile on the school.” Intensified armed hostilities in Gaza come at a time when children would normally be enjoying their summer vacation. Soundbite (Arabic) Ahmed, 11 years old: “These days, there is shelling here and I’m not very happy in life. Because of this Shelling, I can’t go to the beach, we can’t go on picnics. I’m scared. You can’t live your life.” Twelve psychosocial emergency teams are operating in both Gaza and the West Bank. The sessions they conduct are aimed at reinforcing children’s capacity to protect themselves, cope with violence and restore some normalcy to their lives.
