2007.06.07
* Young people debate global issues at Junior 8 Summit * Various Just two years ago, Aminata Palmer, then 11, attended UNICEF's first-ever children's summit, the C8 children's forum in Scotland. This year, she will again represent her country Sierra Leone to participate in the junior 8 summit. There she plans to voice her opinions on many issues concerning children. SOUNDBITE (English) Aminata Palmer, age 13: “We want every child to go to school. The problem of education with children not going to school must stop. Child exploitation must stop. No child must be exploited. All children must know their rights and nobody should exploit the rights of the child. Child abuse must stop. There should no street children. Every child must have a home to go and somewhere to stay. Through her work in a children's network, Aminata is dedicated to promoting children's rights. She is particularly interested in girls' issues and education. SOUNDBITE (English) Aminata Palmer, age 13: “I’ll be the happiest person in the world if they tackle the problem of education and not only education all the problems affecting, but especially education which for me is the most important right.
