1. SOT UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Mia Farrow (English): “It was encouraging to see UNICEF and its partners are building bush schools. Even under those circumstances with insufficient food … they’re eating roots … it was mango season, so there was that fruit but unclean water, unsafe water, no medical attention and still the priority for these good people, good parents, was to provide their children with an education for a future which they can barely envision.”

2. SOT UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Mia Farrow (English): “The only thing that’s going to bring peace and stability to the country is the full support of the international community. Not only in the peace process. Along the Sudanese border EUFOR is there, I think that will provide some measure of security. But there is no one and nothing along the border with Chad. Leaving it wide open for forces to come in and terrorize the population. They abduct the children commonly and hold them for ransom so that they have whatever wealth the family has. The people are errified now. The families that have been herders for centuries are now afraid to have animals. Because that would be a sign that they have money. Or that they have wealth and could raise the money to reclaim their children. People are afraid to have a bicycle or any sign that they could pay these criminals. It is a terrorized population and being held in terror by all these forces.”
