무력분쟁의 위협 속에 살아가는 어린이들

This refugee clinic in Jenin is one of the few places families in the North West Bank can get medical help. Health workers went on strike in September because they weren’t getting paid and since then the case load at this clinic has more than doubled. Up to 700 patients now come here every day. “I have been here for almost three hours waiting to vaccinate my son,” says one mother, Shafika Abdul Fattah. “My back hurts from standing all this time. I have suffered a lot and my son is only a month old.” Children are continuing to bear the brunt of the on-going conflict in the West Bank and Gaza. Dozens have been killed in the fighting while school closures, power outages and now the health strike are eroding their basic rights. CLIP: Dan Rohrmann "What we are seeing here and in the rest of the territory is a health system under siege. It's really making a bad situation for children even worse. We are really pushing the health system to the brink." With resources strained to the limit this clinic alone provides routine immunization for 80 children a day. UNICEF has a crucial role in helping to maintain the cold chain needed to store the vaccinations. CLIP: Dan Rohrmann "UNICEF has really being asked to step up to the plate to work for children. So what we are doing right now is supplying drugs. We are also supplying vaccines and maintaining the cold chain system and making sure that children can get the care they have a right to." UNICEF is continuing to supply medicines and fuel to health centers across the region. But without an end to the violence, children will continue to suffer. *** Asset Name : UNICEF: Children continue to bear brunt of conflict in the West Bank Asset Duration: 02 min 12 secs Shoot City: Jenin Camp Shoot Country: Israel Shoot Date: 09 Sep 2006
