차드 동부지역의 긴급구호 상황을 알리는 미아패로우

* Mia Farrow’s visit highlights crisis in Eastern Chad * 20 Feb 2007 A looted suitcase lies empty in the charred remains of a once thriving village. They came at four in the morning and destroyed everything. The Arab militia even shattered storage vessels to burn the sorghum inside. Just outside the village, a terrible discovery, 15 people buried in a mass grave, they died at the hands of the well armed men. UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador came here to witness the remains of Djorla first hand. And to understand the affects of insecurity in Eastern Chad. Rising ethnic tension and internal conflict has displaced over a hundred thousand Chadians to desperately poor camps. They join 235,000 Sudanese refugees fleeing Darfur. But even here they are not always safe. This young girl was injured when a grenade detonated in their school. A classmate had found it in the bush nearby. Soundbite (English), Mia Farrow, UNICEF goodwill Ambassador: “I don’t think you can know about what is happening here and not feel a personal responsibility to do something. To support our humanitarian workers who are here at the risk of their own lives and overall we have to really push a lot harder for that international peacekeeping force. I can only see this getting a lot worse and hundreds of thousands of people are going to die. Not only out of the attacks but out of hunger, disease and thirst.” Though it is hard to find, hope is here. Children in the camps are still going to school. Their foremost dream is it go home. But they also wish that they will not be forgotten.
