* Nepalese children receive vital health supplements amidst political insecurity
* 02 Nov 2007

Parents in Nepal’s lush countryside and rural areas are turning out in droves to help their children receive vitamin A drops and deworming pills in a nationwide drive aimed at strengthening their immune systems.

The campaign, spearheaded by Nepal’s Female Community Health Volunteers with support from UNICEF, aims to reach some 3.7 million children, ranging in age from 6 months to 5 years old.

Coordinating a campaign of this size can be daunting, but these dedicated volunteers have stayed the course to distribute these vital health supplements which have been responsible for preventing the deaths of more than 12,000 Nepalese children and protecting another 2,000 from going blind each year.

Tomorrow may be a drastically different sort of day for these children, but this campaign has guaranteed that it will be a healthier one as well.
