UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Jackie Chan arrived on Tuesday for a three day visit to Timor Leste.
Thousands of people turned out to cheer the martial arts star as he visited schools and met with children where he urged them to work toward making their country more prosperous and peaceful.
His visit comes little more than a year after an outbreak of violence between street gangs in which 37 people were killed and thousands were forced to flee their burning homes. The street gangs used martial arts to terrorize people, and Mr Chan asked children to reject violence and to usemartial arts only for peace.
UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador
To be a martial artist …. Respect the martial art, no matter what.
Timor Leste Prime Minister, Xanana Gusmao welcomed Jackie Chan and got the chance to show off some of his own martial arts moves.
And the highlight of the trip -- Mr Chan, leading more than three thousand students at the national stadium in a choreographed display.
