Working with public and private sector partners, UNICEF is now getting fresh water the hundreds of thousands of Haitians every day.

SOUNDBITE, SILIVA GAYA, UNCEF WASH SPECIALIST, "I'm Silvia Gaya, WASH specialist with UNICEF and what we can see here now today is the effect of this organization with the private sector who is very supportive in terms of providing water as a first response for the population affected by the earth quake."

"We had yesterday 308,000 people being served with safe water in PAP thanks to this work together with the private sector, government and the NGOs. Which is the most impressive part of this, is the capacity of the government, to organize and with UNICEF supporting with all the partners in the WASH cluster to be able to serve everday increasing people."

"With just the trucks you are seeing here, there is 5000 litres of safe water and these trucks can serve 1000 people each day.
There are another two other companies that work in the same way, they offered their services to the government, and then the government together with other partners including UNICEF make it happen for the first emergency response."

"If you assure safe water it has a huge impact on children which are the most vulnerable to get diarrhoea if the water is not safe. Even when there is water pumped by other water holes, we assure that this water is always treated before being delivered to the population and there is people in the field monitoring the chlorine in the bladder tanks to assure that this water is safe."
